Start with records you already love
Skip "investment" copies at first. Buy albums you would put on tonight. Your first shelf should sound like your actual taste.
Set a monthly budget
One or two records per month is enough for most people. Slow buying keeps the habit intentional.
Learn condition grades
Discogs uses Mint, Near Mint, Very Good Plus, and so on. A VG+ copy with light surface noise is fine for daily listening. A sealed NM copy might wait on the shelf for a grail.
Catalog from day one
